Nova Scotian Lapierre Team Take Nackawic Title

May 24, 2022

The second qualifier of the 2022 season was held May 21-22 out of the town of Nackawic. This year, teams were met by calm winds and warm temps as the teams lined up for the day 1 take off. As the teams raced up and down the mighty Saint John river, anglers put together their best 5 fish in hopes of getting off on the right foot on Day 1. At the weigh in, it was newcomers Paul Melanson and Robert Mason who found themselves atop the leaderboard with a healthy 18.55 lbs.

The weather on day 2 started as day 1 did but it didn’t hold out for long. By noon, teams battled thunder, lightning, wind and hard rain downpours as they tried to chase down the leaders. In the end it was the Nova Scotia team of Lapierre and Lapierre who jumped from 6th to 1st with a 2 day total of 33.35 lbs and took the winning trophy. Melanson and Mason held on to 2nd place with Lokeitek and Peruschek rounding out the top 3.

The day 1 lunker from MacLeod and MacLeod tipped the scales at over 5lbs and threatens to be the lunker of the year. The team of Hooper and Hooper brought in the lunker on day 2 weighing 4.25 lbs.

The teams now set their sights on Lake Utopia the first weekend of July
