Formerly of Borden Prince Edward Island, Barry moved to Fredericton shortly after retiring from Marine Atlantic. He enjoyed baseball, hunting and fishing and spent several years guiding. Barry was an active member of the Fredericton Anglers Club and the New Brunswick Sportfishing Association. And he belonged to a very exclusive club, the “SMB 5 Pound Club”, catching a 5.22-pound smallmouth in an NBSFA tournament on Harvey Lake. Very few members in that club.
Barry was also a very generous guy. One tournament morning a team had a collision on the way to the tournament. Hearing about the accident without hesitation Barry was on the phone offering his truck and brand-new boat to the team to use for the day. An act of kindness never forgotten. Barry was a friend to many.
